Nowadays, a bagged lunch is a microwavable burrito and a bag of chips, instead of a home-cooked meal. Here are 7 reasons why everyone should learn how to cook:
- To save money. Buying lunch at work five times a week can add up: for lunches $7 to $15 each, that’s $1,750 - $3,750 spent on (often) unhealthy food every year. By bringing your own homemade lunch every day, you could use the extra cash for a weekend trip.
- Women. Guys, women love men who cook. It’s not that they’re lazy, but there’s nothing women love more than being pampered.
- Men. Girls, the fastest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Men love food. It’s a fact. Many males would turn down sex for a juicy porterhouse steak or a tall, frosty glass of imported lager.
- Pride. One of the seven deadly sins but also one of the best sins: there’s few things more satisfying than turning a counter full of ingredients into something delicious.
- It’s useful. Whether it be knife skills or just knowing the basics of baking and stir-frying, this is knowledge that can be imparted to your young ones; current or future.
- It smells! The aromas of freshly baked bread, french onion soup, chicken stew…
- It doesn’t take very long. Once you befriend your oven and stovetop then get to know their intricacies well, you won’t need to stand in front of the pan watching your food like the Eye of Sauron. You’ll know when to come back and flip the beef, or to rotate the cake pan — and you’ll be able to do other things while the food cooks.
