Cook’s Illustrated has been an invaluable resource for me — not for it’s excellent recipes and guides, but for
the equipment reviews that are posted in every issue. It’s a bi-monthly magazine, but there are more than enough recipes in every issue to last for the two months you’ll wait for the next issue.
Cook’s Illustrated is by the same people who do the excellent America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook and its corresponding PBS television series. Each issue is a wonderful addendum to the cookbook’s recipes and kitchenware guides. There is also an exhaustive website that posts charts and equipment reviews in an archive.
A subscription to Cook’s Illustrated is not cheap by any magazine standards, but this is a resource that I really can’t live without.

I agree that Cook’s Illustrated is an invaluable resource and I find their equipment reviews particularly useful. In fact, if I’m considering a kitchen equipment purchase I always read what they have to say about it. I don’t subscribe to the magazine (although I should because I buy it frequently enough that a subscription would probably be cheaper) but I do subscribe to their website which allows me to search for recipes and check equipment reviews.

@Julie: The website is probably a better overall resource, since it has pretty much everything dating back for years and years, and it’s searchable. Having it in your hand is a nice feeling, though.
