America’s Test Kitchen is an excellent show, and they have done a fine job with the Family Cookbook, which has been revised a number of
times over the years.
I got this for a wedding gift, and I have to say, it’s been a very helpful reference in my kitchen. This cookbook deserves a spot right next to The Joy of Cooking (as well as Alton Brown’s books) in your kitchen cookbook libraries.
The recipes included (over 1,200 of them) run from very easy to moderately difficult, and the book itself is laden with beautiful food photography; it also includes useful how-tos for different cooking techniques as well as comparisons and ratings of kitchenware, appliances, and cooking ingredients.
Furthermore, the book pages are ring-bound, which makes it exceedingly simple to use as a recipe reference: just take out the page(s) of the recipe and stick ‘em on your fridge for easy reading.
