BBQ Pulled Pork

I was inspired by this post on ma’ona to post a slow cooked pork recipe.

This recipe for BBQ pulled pork is the result of said inspiration — and it also goes well with the cheap and easy theme of this foodie blog.

This type of pulled pork dish is heavily identified with American culture — pulled pork sandwiches and the like are featured often on American deli menus and at festivals across the states.

It is also one of my favorite things to eat, ever.

Ingredients:

Pork Butt

  • 4lb pork butt (boneless or bone-in)
  • 1 1/2 bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce (about 24oz)
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, semi-smashed
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Toss everything in your crock pot, cackling madly all the while.

Pour the BBQ sauce on top.

Don’t be afraid if it doesn’t look like enough, the pork and onions will release a ton of liquid soon enough.

Cook on low for 8-9 hours, or on high for 6 hours.

Move the slab ‘o pork to a cutting board, which we have placed cleverly in a baking sheet to catch all the drippings.

Grab two big forks and with angry Freddy Krueger-like motions, shred the pork into confetti and move the delicious shavings to a container for easy storage.

Reserve the porky BBQ sauce from the crock pot if desired.

The photo on the right shows my favorite way to eat this stuff — in a large quantity, with a couple of fried eggs, some rice, and a few hot peppers.

This also goes wonderfully on a hoagie roll with a tomato.

Heck, spoon it on your ice cream — this stuff is THAT good!
